Poem: “Do you recognize me?”

┬а ┬а ┬а ┬а ┬а ┬а Preetam Koirala

Do you recognize me?
I think not.
I was that human,
who used to beg on you
for a single meal.
The clothes
that you used to throw as old,
were completely new for me.
Your so called footpaths,
were the bed for my unfulfilling dreams.
I was that child,
who used to have marks of bite on arm,
a street dog bite.
It was a sign of love of my friend,
who could not speak with me,
on my language,
but had spent hundreds of days with me,
like me.
Today, some unknown people are around me,
talking about my miserable life,
Taking me for the first time in ambulance,
for the post-mortem.
